What Was the World’s Most Expensive Tuna?

At our Issaquah sushi restaurant, you can enjoy tuna in the form of our albacore, maburo, and bluefin sushi. These selections all come with Aji Sushi’s reasonable prices, a claim that can not be made by everyone in the business of selling sushi fish. You might be surprised at the prices that some people may pay for a piece of tuna.

The current record for the highest price paid for a piece of sushi-grade bluefin tuna is $526 per pound. The sale of this tuna occurred on January 4th of 2011 at the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo. It was here that a 754 pound tuna was bought for $396,000. What makes this record even more interesting is the fact that the record it beat was set ten years prior to the day, on January 5th, 2001. It was on this date that a 444 pound tuna was bought for $173,600, or $391 per pound.
