The Food of Osaka

For a long time, Osaka has had a bit of a reputation for its zest for food. The people of Japan have long called the region kuidaore, meaning “ruining oneself with extravagance in food”.

In a big part, this is due to Osaka’s geographical position; convenient to both the sea and the mountains, it is capable of easily drawing upon a great variety of ingredients. Meanwhile, remote areas were better able to introduce their own foods to the area via the Seto Inland Sea. Today, this is a place where one can enjoy foods inspired by many different cultures around the world, including such regional favorites as takoyaki, okonomiyaki, negiyaki, yakiniku, and kitsune udon.

At Aji Sushi, we recognize Osaka with our Osaka roll. This roll is made with tempura shrimp, crab meat, avocado, cucumber, asparagus, and masago. With such a rich variety of ingredients from around the globe, it is a fitting tribute to this unique part of Japan. Come and give it a try today at our Issaquah sushi restaurant!
