Do you love a good teriyaki? Is a hot, succulent plate of sauce-coated rice and meat the first thing that springs to mind when you hear somebody say “Let’s go out for some Japanese”? If so, you will not be disappointed at Aji Sushi’s Issaquah Japanese restaurant. Here, you can enjoy this Japanese classic with chicken, spicy chicken, or beef.
The word teriyaki is a combination of two Japanese words: teri describes the glossy shine of the sauce, and yaki describes the method that goes into cooking the meat. The famous sauce is made from a mix of soy sauce, sugar, and Japanese rice wines like sake and mirin. The dish is thought to have originated sometime during the seventeenth century, in a time when roasting and grilling techniques were emerging in Japan and the increase of urbanization was bringing about a demand for quick, easy food that could be sold in the streets. Teriyaki was one of the first Japanese foods to be embraced in America, back in the 1960’s, and continues to be an iconic part of Japanese cuisine to this day.
