Japan isn’t the only culture to have experimented with raw fish dishes! If you’re looking for something new at our Issaquah sushi restaurant, try ordering up a dish of poke salad. This salad, which is pronounced “POH-kay”, represents a Hawaiian equivalent of the classic Japanese sashimi.
The Hawaiian word “poke” translates to “slice”, or “cut”. The dish itself consists of pieces of fish that have been cut into small pieces, most frequently cubes, and seasoned with kukui nut relish, green onions, soy sauce, seaweed, or any of a number of delicious ingredients. A traditional Hawaiian dish that goes back many years, poke is one of the few such dishes that has been embraced outside of Hawaii itself. Check it out for yourself at Aji Sushi in Issaquah!
